John is an author and photographer whose work focuses primarily on Nature. He has published several books highlighting his bird photography, and is additionally working on a series of fantasy stories focused on the themes of the power of youth and imagination in shaping one's worldview.

• John's photography is now available online for purchase via SmugMug. Even if you're not interested in buying John's work, you'll find browsing his collections of natural landscapes and other work worthwhile.

• John's fourth and most recent bird photologue, Cleared for Takeoff: Travel and Nature Through the Lens, is now available for purchase via Lulu.com. The book features 114 full-color pages with over 70 of his best photographs from the past several years, including birds from Europe and Thailand alongside the stunning landscapes of the American southwest.

• John's photo of a White Ibis devouring a crab took first place in the water birds category of Wild Bird Magazine's 2009 Photo Contest and appears in their September/October issue (available now).

• John's third bird photologue, In Migration: A Year of Birding and Transition in Photography, is now available for purchase via Lulu.com. The book features 112 full-color pages with over 60 of his best photographs from 2007 and 2008.

• John has started two blogs: View from the Exerda, a general-purpose blog to discuss whatever strikes his fancy; and Digital Feathers, a blog about digital bird photography. Give them a visit!

• John's Blue-grey Gnatcatcher appeared in the October / November issue of Birds & Blooms magazine.

• John's excellent photo of a male Pileated Woodpecker was published by Birder's World magazine in their December 2006 issue. Additionally, his female Red-winged Blackbird took third place in the 2006 Huntley Meadows nature photography contest.

• John has compiled his best bird photos of 2006 into a photo narrative available for purchase from Lulu.com. The paperback 9x7 book includes 112 full-color pages and makes an excellent gift to bird and photography enthusiasts alike.
